The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will take place on May 4, 2026. The voting is scheduled for April 23, 2026. Actor C. Joseph Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, is entering the race, which could alter the political landscape.
The main contest is between MK Stalin’s DMK and the AIADMK-led NDA alliance. AIADMK needs to secure its position in the western region while gaining ground in northern, central, and Greater Chennai areas to reclaim power.
Key constituencies include:
- Kolathur
- Perambur
- Tiruchirappalli (East)
- Bodinayakanur
- Edappadi
- Mylapore
- Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni
- Sriperumbudur
- Sattur
C. Joseph Vijay is contesting against RD Shekar in Perambur. MK Stalin faces P Santhana Krishnan in Kolathur. Udhayanidhi Stalin is up against Aadirajaram in Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni.
The AIADMK ceded ground to the DMK-led alliance in the 2021 elections. Observers expect that the entry of new parties like TVK may influence voting trends significantly.
