New vehicle owners in Telangana face significant delays in receiving permanent registration numbers due to the transition to the VAHAN 4.0 portal. Over 79,000 vehicles out of 89,392 applications have received permanent registrations online. The rollout of this digital service aims to improve efficiency and transparency.

The shift to the VAHAN portal introduced a phased approach across Telangana. This strategy was meant to maintain system stability during the transition. However, technical glitches have caused disruptions. As a result, many new vehicle buyers are left waiting for their permanent registration numbers.

Vehicle dealers must install High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) after receiving these permanent numbers. Meanwhile, temporary registrations are being issued to facilitate vehicle use during the delay. Officials expect normalcy in vehicle registration processes soon as they work to resolve these issues.

The online fancy number system has improved transparency and fairness for vehicle owners. So far, 3,223 fancy number bookings have been recorded since the implementation of the new system. The Transport Department has stated that officials are actively addressing these challenges.

Despite these efforts, no specific timeline has been provided for when all vehicle registrations will return to normal operations. The phased rollout of the VAHAN portal remains crucial for avoiding further disruptions for vehicle owners.
