A mother tragically clutched her child tightly in a life jacket even in death during the Jabalpur cruise accident on April 30, 2026. The incident occurred at Bargi Dam, Madhya Pradesh, where a cruise boat capsized, resulting in four deaths and leaving twelve others missing.

The cruise was carrying twenty-nine passengers and two crew members when it capsized amid sudden strong winds. Eyewitnesses reported that the crew ignored passengers’ requests for safety measures despite a prior weather alert. Survivors stated they begged the operator to steer the vessel back to safety, but their pleas went unheeded.

Rescue operations confirmed that fifteen passengers were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals. Tragically, the bodies of a mother and her four-year-old son were recovered from the waters. The mother was found holding her child tightly in a life jacket.

The Madhya Pradesh Tourism department faces scrutiny over this incident. State minister Rakesh Singh announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for each family of the victims. Pradeep Kumar, a survivor, expressed frustration about the lack of safety arrangements on board.
