BJP has achieved a historic third consecutive term in Assam, securing 73 seats in the recent assembly elections held on May 4, 2026. This marks a significant political milestone for the party and the state.

The Assam assembly elections saw a voter turnout of over 85%, reflecting strong public engagement. In addition to BJP’s success, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won 6 seats, while the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) secured 8 seats. Congress gained 10 seats, and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) clinched 2 seats. Raijor Dal and the Trinamool Congress each managed to secure 1 seat.

BJP is currently leading in 9 out of the remaining 25 seats, while Congress leads in 10. Himanta Biswa Sarma continues as Chief Minister, strengthening BJP’s position in the state. Gaurav Gogoi led the Congress campaign but faced challenges against BJP’s election strategy.
