President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that he will dismiss Abbas Araghchi if his conduct continues. This warning comes as tensions rise within Iran’s leadership over Araghchi’s handling of US negotiations.

Araghchi faces accusations of aligning too closely with Revolutionary Guard Commander Ahmad Vahidi. Pezeshkian believes that Araghchi has behaved more like an aide to Vahidi than a cabinet minister. This has frustrated other leaders, particularly after Araghchi coordinated directly with Vahidi without informing the president.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is also seeking Araghchi’s ouster. Ghalibaf resigned from his position as head of the negotiating team after being reprimanded for including nuclear discussions in talks with the United States.

On April 24, Araghchi traveled alone to Islamabad to deliver Tehran’s proposal to Pakistani officials. However, the proposal was rejected by the United States president shortly thereafter, highlighting divisions within Iran’s leadership regarding negotiations.

A faction of lawmakers aligned with hardline politician Saeed Jalili has refused to support the negotiating team. The Revolutionary Guards are reportedly controlling key managerial positions due to the critical situation surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and regional stability.

Despite these challenges, Araghchi stated that cooperation between Iran and Russia continues to expand amid regional uncertainty. He emphasized that the United States failed to achieve its objectives in recent conflicts with Iran.

The meeting between Iranian and Russian officials lasted nearly two hours and was described as constructive by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Yet, internal discord remains a significant issue for Iran as it navigates complex diplomatic waters.
