Velmurugan Urges Expedited Flyover Construction Amid Traffic Congestion
Chennai residents face severe traffic congestion as ongoing flyover construction affects daily commutes. Velmurugan has emphasized the urgent need to expedite this construction to alleviate the worsening situation.
Currently, flyover construction is ongoing at five locations along a 151-kilometer stretch from Padalam to Sengurichi. Traffic congestion is already problematic on ordinary days due to this work. However, it increases fivefold during holidays and election periods.
On multiple occasions, Velmurugan has urged for the expedited completion of the flyover works. He stated, “We need to expedite the completion of flyover works to avoid traffic congestion.” He criticized the pace of construction, calling it “proceeding at a snail’s pace.”
The National Highways Authority of India has allocated funds for a new flyover near the Government Villupuram Medical College. Yet, delays persist because the district administration has not yet acquired land for this project.
Tamil Nadu boasts a total of 4,974 kilometers of national highways, with 2,724 kilometers under the control of the National Highways Authority of India. The Tamil Nadu government maintains an additional 2,250 kilometers.
The ongoing issues highlight the importance of timely infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu. Residents continue to express frustration over traffic delays that impact their daily lives.
