BJP’s sweeping victory in the Gujarat local body elections underscores its continued dominance across both urban and rural regions. The elections took place on April 28, 2026, and covered various bodies including municipal corporations and panchayats.

Before these elections, expectations were mixed. Analysts anticipated a competitive race, especially for Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). However, the results shifted dramatically.

The BJP has taken a lead, winning over 3,750 seats so far out of more than 9,200 seats. They won all 15 municipal corporations in Gujarat and secured 33 out of 34 district panchayats. The decisive moment came with BJP winning 467 out of 493 declared seats in municipal corporations.
