Axis My India predicts a stunning debut for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 29, 2026. The projections suggest that TVK could reshape the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
Before these predictions, the political scene was dominated by the DMK and AIADMK. The ruling DMK had a strong hold, while AIADMK remained a significant opposition party. However, recent data indicates a shift.
According to the exit polls, TVK is projected to win between 98 and 120 seats, potentially matching the DMK-led ruling bloc with approximately 35% of the vote share. In contrast, DMK-INC+ is expected to secure 92-110 seats, while NDA may capture only 22-32 seats.
Vijay emerges as the most preferred choice for Chief Minister, garnering 37% support compared to MK Stalin’s 35%. This marks a notable change in voter sentiment.
The support for TVK is particularly strong among younger voters. A remarkable 68% of first-time voters aged 18-19 favor TVK. Additionally, 59% of voters aged 20-29 also express their support for the new party.
The desire for change fuels this shift. About 35% of all voters cite this as their main reason for supporting TVK. Among TVK supporters, this figure rises to 77%.
This support spans various demographics, cutting across OBC and SC communities and appealing to both urban and rural voters. The total number of seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly is 234, with a halfway mark of 118 needed to form the government.
Political analyst Pradeep Gupta noted that Vijay’s rise mirrors that of former chief ministers like MG Ramachandran (MGR) in Tamil Nadu. He stated that TVK has emerged as a third force in Tamil Nadu politics.
If these projections hold true, TVK could become the largest party in Tamil Nadu, potentially playing kingmaker in a fractured mandate. The desire for change appears to be the defining theme of this election cycle.
