The UAE faced its first significant attack since a recent ceasefire on May 5, 2026. This incident has raised concerns about escalating tensions in the Gulf region. A large fire broke out at the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone following a drone attack attributed to Iran.

The UAE intercepted 12 ballistic missiles, four drones, and three cruise missiles during the assault. Emergency alerts were issued across the country, urging residents to seek shelter. Three Indian nationals sustained injuries and received medical attention.

Iranian officials responded by denying any intent to target the UAE. A senior Iranian military official stated, “Iran has no plans to target the UAE.” However, this statement contrasts sharply with the reality of the attacks.

The UAE condemned the Iranian actions as a dangerous escalation and a violation of international law. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that these strikes constituted a clear infringement on its sovereignty.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan also condemned the Iranian strikes. Their collective response highlights regional solidarity against perceived threats from Iran.

This incident marks a significant shift in US-Iran relations following a ceasefire established on April 8. The attacks directly threaten maritime navigation in the vital Strait of Hormuz.

The UAE’s Ministry of Education announced a transition to distance learning for five days due to security concerns stemming from these events. This decision underscores the serious impact of the attacks on daily life in the UAE.

Since Iranian strikes began, air defenses have engaged 549 ballistic missiles, 29 cruise missiles, and 2260 unmanned aerial vehicles. These figures illustrate an ongoing threat to regional stability.
