“Hyderabad is not just my origin; it is a language, a rhythm, a way of being,” said Sudha Reddy at the Met Gala 2026. The Indian billionaire and philanthropist showcased her roots through fashion on May 4, 2026, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Reddy wore an ensemble titled “The Tree of Life,” inspired by traditional Kalamkari textiles. This piece highlights the rich narrative history of these textiles, which have been part of Indian culture for over 3,000 years.

The outfit was styled in collaboration with Mariel Haenn and features intricate motifs from Kalamkari traditions in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Sudha Reddy emphasized the human touch behind the creation, stating, “What moves me most is the human touch behind it all. Thousands of hours, countless hands, generations of knowledge woven, embroidered and shaped into a single moment.”

Her statement reflects a deep appreciation for Indian craftsmanship and its significance in contemporary fashion as art. Notably, Reddy’s necklace is valued at $15 million and features a stunning 550-carat tanzanite.

As Director of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) Group and a member of UNICEF’s International Council, Reddy has represented India on various global platforms. She has previously attended prestigious events like Cannes and the United Nations General Assembly.

The Met Gala serves as an important stage for cultural exchange in fashion. Sudha Reddy’s presence underscores the importance of showcasing diverse cultural narratives in modern couture.
