Vijay’s rejection of Anbumani Ramadoss‘s demand for a Deputy Chief Minister post for his wife adds tension to the coalition talks in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. The Tamil Nadu Victory Alliance (TVK), led by Vijay, secured 106 seats in the recent elections but needs 12 more seats to form a government with a majority.

Anbumani Ramadoss, leader of the PMK, demanded the Deputy Chief Minister position for his wife, Sowmiya Anbumani. Vijay rejected this demand, complicating negotiations. Currently, TVK is engaged in discussions with Congress, CPI, CPM, and VCK to solidify their political alliance.

In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, PMK won 5 seats. The election results represent a significant turning point in the state’s politics. Vijay has requested a 14-day deadline to prove his majority after writing to Governor Rajendra Arlekar to form the government.

Vijay plans to meet with MLAs and the Governor to assert his claim to form the government. This situation highlights the ongoing complexities in Tamil Nadu’s political dynamics as parties navigate their alliances.
