Vijay’s rejection of Anbumani Ramadoss‘s demand for a Deputy Chief Minister post for his wife adds tension to the coalition talks in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. The Tamil Nadu Victory Alliance (TVK), led by Vijay, secured 106 seats in the recent elections but needs 12 more to form a majority government.

Anbumani Ramadoss, leader of the PMK, demanded that his wife Sowmiya be appointed as Deputy Chief Minister. However, Vijay firmly rejected this demand. The TVK is currently negotiating with Congress, CPI, CPM, and VCK to secure additional support.

In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the PMK won only 5 seats. This outcome has put pressure on Anbumani to negotiate effectively. Vijay has requested a 14-day deadline to prove his majority and plans to meet with MLAs and Governor Rajendra Arlekar.

Vijay wrote to the Governor seeking permission to form the government. The ongoing talks are crucial as they determine the political landscape moving forward. Observers note that this election marks a significant turning point in Tamil Nadu politics.
