Wehen Wiesbaden vs Bayern Munich: Club Friendlies stats & head-to-head

Wehen Wiesbaden secured a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in their first pre-season friendly of the summer. The match, held for Wehen Wiesbaden’s 100th anniversary, saw a youthful Bayern side take to the field with an average age of 17.6 years in their starting XI.

The third-division side took an early lead with a goal from Ibrahim Ati Allah in the 10th minute, assisted by Flotho. Bayern’s team, which included 11 teenagers at the start, faced defensive challenges from the determined hosts.

Match Action and Bayern’s Young Talent

In the second half, Bayern Munich found an equalizer through a penalty scored by Tom Bischof in the 57th minute. The penalty was awarded after skillful attacker Tim Binder was fouled in the area. Bischof expressed confidence in taking the penalty, stating he had practiced them frequently.

Despite the equalizer, Wehen Wiesbaden reclaimed the lead in the 83rd minute. Lukas Schleimer scored the winning goal after Sven Ulreich, who captained the team in the second period, was unable to hold onto a shot. Agrafiotis provided the assist for Schleimer’s goal.

Christoph Freund, Bayern’s sporting director, commented on the young team’s performance at half-time, noting that many of the boys had never played against professional adult teams before. He observed that they had held their own and created chances, considering it a valuable experience for the young players.

The match was a significant opportunity for players from the FC Bayern Campus to showcase their abilities to coach Vincent Kompany. Kompany had indicated that such games provide a chance for young players to catch the eye, especially with many senior players on holiday after the World Cup.

Squad Changes and Future Plans

Vincent Kompany made extensive changes for the second half, introducing players like Tom Bischof, who wore his new No.8 shirt for the first time. Other players who returned from loan spells and came on included Sacha Boey, João Palhinha, and Arijon Ibrahimović, along with Maycon Cardozo, who joined the senior squad last season.

Of the starting XI, only Guido Della Rovere, aged 19, and Bastian Assomo, aged 16, had previously been part of a first-team matchday squad. Kompany acknowledged the challenging situation of having many players absent due to the World Cup but emphasized the opportunity it presented for others.

The coach noted that Wehen Wiesbaden had provided a good test for the young players, recalling their tough performance against Bayern in the DFB Cup last season. He expressed excitement for the returning World Cup players, describing them as a great group.

The first group of players returning from their post-World Cup holidays are expected to rejoin the squad on Monday for a training camp at Tegernsee. This camp will include open training sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, followed by another friendly match against local side Rottach-Egern. The team is then scheduled to travel to Asia for the Audi Summer Tour on Saturday.
