India opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has expressed growing confidence following his record-breaking half-century in international cricket. His 18-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in the opening T20I in Harare made him the youngest player to achieve a half-century in men’s international cricket. This performance marked a significant turnaround for the 15-year-old, who had a challenging start to his international career.

Sooryavanshi’s explosive innings, which included four fours and four sixes off just 19 balls, was crucial in India’s seven-wicket victory. This win gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Sooryavanshi’s maiden international fifty saw him eclipse a record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar was 16 years and 213 days old when he scored his first international fifty in 1989. Sooryavanshi achieved his milestone at 15 years and 118 days, highlighting his early impact on the international stage.

His performance in the first T20I laid the foundation for India’s comfortable chase of Zimbabwe’s total of 125 for seven. This victory gives India an early advantage in the series. The second T20I between India and Zimbabwe is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, at the same venue, the Harare Sports Club. The third T20I will follow on July 26, also at the Harare Sports Club.

Sooryavanshi’s confidence is rising after this significant innings, especially after a challenging debut series against England, where he scored 42 runs across three T20I innings. His scores in that series included 14 off 10 balls, 13 off five deliveries, and 15 off 10 balls.
