Dhruva Natchathiram Receives Clearance for Release

By 02.05.2026
dhruva natchathiram — IN news

After 13 years of delays, Gautham Vasudev Menon’s film Dhruva Natchathiram has finally received clearance for release from the Madras High Court. The court’s decision marks the end of a long struggle that began over a decade ago.

The film, starring Vikram and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, has an estimated budget of Rs.80 Crores. It faced numerous setbacks, including financial constraints and delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy presided over the court order to facilitate the film’s release.

The court mandated that the film’s revenue be routed through an escrow account, ensuring proper financial management. This ruling aims to protect the interests of all stakeholders involved in the production.

Gautham Vasudev Menon expressed gratitude towards his legal counsel and the judge for their efforts in facilitating the release. He remarked, “There’s light at the end of the tunnel,” emphasizing relief after such a prolonged process.

Dhruva Natchathiram features a character named John who leads a specialized unit formed in response to the Mumbai terror attacks. The film’s production involved three cinematographers: Manoj Paramahamsa, SR Kathir, and Vishnu Dev, with editing by Anthony.

The music is composed by Harris Jayaraj, with lyrics by Thamarai and Paal Dabba. The cast includes Ritu Varma, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, and Simran—each contributing to what many hope will be a significant entry in Tamil cinema.

Menon stated that this landmark order will serve as a benchmark for any film facing similar challenges within an industry often fraught with financial disarray. He noted, “Some men tried to destroy my career and stop my film from releasing, a film that’s also the work of more than a hundred people.” This sentiment reflects the broader struggles faced by filmmakers in Tamil cinema.

The approval for Dhruva Natchathiram opens doors for its anticipated release on May 1, 2026. This date marks a new chapter not only for Menon but also for all those involved in this long-awaited project.
